About Rachel Kaplan

Rachel Kaplan

Rachel Kaplan has had a life-long interest in European Jewish history and culture, that began at Northwestern University and continued with her career as a journalist and writer of books.

At 20, she was hired as a staff writer for the Jewish News in East Orange, New Jersey, where she interviewed such personalities as Chaim Potok and Moshe Dayan, and wrote some of the first journalistic series on Soviet-Jewish émigrés.

Later, she became a contributing editor to INSIDE Magazine, the quarterly publication of the Jewish Federation of Philadelphia.

At INSIDE, Ms. Kaplan wrote profiles of Simon Wiesenthal and Dr. Bernard Kouchner (founder of the Nobel Prize-winning Doctors Without Borders), as well as cover stories about the role of the Swiss banks during World War Two and the life of the French-Jewish community fifty years after the Deportation.

As the president and founder of French Links Tours and British Links Tours, the bilingual Ms. Kaplan is the first American to offer English-language Jewish cultural and historical tours in and around Paris, an endeavor that she is now extending to include Provence, the French Riviera, London, Berlin and Rome.

Rachel Kaplan has also lectured widely on European Jewish travel and culture, including for the Jewish Library in Los Angeles, the Alliance Francaise and the Beaux-Arts Alliance in New York City, as well as at Sotheby's.

Among the topics she has spoken on are The History of French Jews From the Middle Ages Until the Present, Triumph and Tragedy at the Nissim de Camondo Museum and Great Jewish Women in Paris.

While the emphasis of European Jewish Tours is history, art and heritage, the goal of Ms. Kaplan is to personalize each tour according to the traveler's needs and wishes. Ms. Kaplan welcomes groups and multigenerational families, as well as the physically impaired.

Adds Ms. Kaplan: "My aim with European Jewish Tours is to provide a different view of Jewish life on and off the Continent, one that is both intriguing and unforgettable."

Shalom
